There was a time when I making a turmeric latte every day. It wasn’t fancy. I’d just heap some turmeric and some milk into a pan and let it boil until frothy. This recipe isn’t all that fancy either–although when coffee shops in LA sell it for over $5, you start to wonder…
When people think of my cooking, they often think “turmeric.” In fact, my roommates once informed me that I made everything with turmeric–and that I needed to slow my roll!
I couldn’t believe it. Me? An indiscriminate turmeric user?! But they were right: turmeric was my go-to spice. In small quantities, the bitter powder made a dish taste, well, almost sweet.
Eventually, I came to accept my love affair with this orange-colored rhizome powder. Besides, turmeric is pretty darn healthy! Overtime, turmeric exposure will help reduce inflammation, and as a dancer, managing inflammation is critical to my health. But don’t take it from me. There’s tons of research out there that agrees and whole systems of knowledge that knew this long before scientists came along.
How to make a perfect turmeric latte
There are many ways, but my favorite method involves steaming and frothing oat milk then adding it to a blender with ¼ teaspoon turmeric, a pinch of black pepper, and a pinch of cardamom. It doesn’t need any sugar, but add some if you wish.
If you don’t have a milk steamer, just heat your milk on the stove until it creates steam, then blend it with the other ingredients until bubbles form.

Description
A warm, golden beverage for health and joy!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces oat milk or cow’s milk
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric
- a pinch black pepper
- a pinch cardamom
Instructions
- Warm and froth the milk in a milk frothing device. OR Warm the milk in a saucepan until steam rises and bubbles form.*
- Add the frothy milk to the blender along with the other ingredients.
- Blend on high for 30 seconds, or until bubbles start forming at the top.
Notes
Note: For best results, warm and froth the milk in a device made to do so. If using the stovetop method (which I’ve given here to accommodate more readers), you may not get the same density of bubbles or foam on top. But it will still be delicious!
